OTR tyre trading in the Pilbara

The Pilbara region of Western Australia is the largest concentration of OTR tyre demand in Australia. Iron ore haul trucks (CAT 793F, 797F; Komatsu 830E, 930E), giant wheel loaders (CAT 992K, 994K; Komatsu WA800, WA1200), and the supporting fleet of graders, dozers, water carts, and civil construction equipment combine to make the Pilbara the single most demanding OTR operating environment in the country.

The operating conditions are tough on tyres. Iron ore is abrasive. Pilbara summers run 40°C ambient for weeks at a time. Haul cycles are long, often with significant elevation change between bench and run-of-mine. TKPH requirements push tier-one heat-resistant compounds even at moderate cycle lengths.

Tier-one mining contracts dominate primary fleet tyre supply through Bridgestone Mining Solutions, Michelin Earthmover, Goodyear OTR, and Yokohama OTR. Secondary fleet, civil contractors, and ancillary equipment increasingly run mid-tier brands (BKT, Aeolus, Triangle, Techking) where the application allows.
